What This Exam Covers
The Amadeus Basics Exam tests whether you can actually work in a GDS — not just recall commands. It is built for people preparing for their first agency role, students finishing a travel and tourism course, or experienced agents moving to Amadeus from another platform.
The exam pulls 30 questions at random from a pool covering the everyday workflows of an entry-level agent: encoding cities and airlines, reading availability, building a PNR, pricing an itinerary, issuing a ticket, and understanding fare rules.
How the Exam Is Structured
Questions fall into two types, and you need both skills to pass. Theoretical questions test your command knowledge. Practical questions require you to log in, open the simulator, run real commands, and report what you find.
📘 Theoretical Questions
Answered directly in the exam form. You’ll be asked which command to use for a task, what a specific entry displays, or how two related commands differ. No simulator required — pure command knowledge.
💻 Practical Questions
You log in, open the GDS Training Simulator, and run the command yourself. The question asks you to report a result — a fare, a tax amount, a passenger name, a flight number, or a penalty from a fare rule.

How to Prepare
You don’t need to memorise 150 commands. You need fluency in roughly 25 of them, plus the confidence to look up the rest. Follow these four steps:

Practise the workflows
Open the GDS Training Simulator and run the five core workflows: availability search, PNR creation, pricing, ticketing, and queue processing. Practise until you can do them without notes.

Take the exam when ready
Once you can build and price a simple itinerary unaided, you are ready. The exam draws questions randomly, so there is no fixed “set” to memorise.
Your Certificate
After you submit the exam you receive an immediate score. If you pass, a certificate is generated automatically and stored in your account — you can print it or save it as a PDF at any time.

- The exam name — Amadeus Beginner Assessment
- Your score as a percentage
- A pass status: PASS (60–79%) or PASS WITH DISTINCTION (80%+)
- A unique certificate number for verification
- Issue date and the GDS Hub instructor signature
The certificate is an educational record from GDS Hub. It is not an official certification from Amadeus IT Group or any GDS provider — and we say so clearly on the certificate itself. It is designed to demonstrate to employers that you can work in a simulated Amadeus environment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Amadeus Basics Exam free?
Yes. The exam, the simulator, and the certificate are all free. There is no payment step anywhere in the process. You only need a GDS Hub account.
Do I need to complete a course before taking the exam?
No. There is no prerequisite course or module. Anyone with a free account can take the exam at any time. We do recommend working through the command reference and practising in the simulator first — the practical questions will be very difficult otherwise.
How long does the exam take?
There is no time limit. Most candidates finish in 30–45 minutes. The practical questions take longer than the theoretical ones because you need to open the simulator, run commands, and read the results.
What happens if I fail?
You can retake the exam as many times as you like. Each attempt draws a new random set of 30 questions. There is no waiting period and no penalty for a failed attempt.
What is the difference between the Basics and Advanced exams?
The Basics exam covers entry-level workflows: encoding, availability, PNR creation, basic pricing, and ticketing. The Advanced Exam covers complex fare rules, reissues and refunds, queue management, and manual TSTs. We recommend passing Basics first.
Can employers verify my certificate?
Yes. Every certificate carries a unique number. Employers can verify it through our certificate verification page by entering the certificate number.
