A complete guide to the Amadeus JI command โ how to sign in to a work area, either automatically to the first available area or directly to one or more specified work areas.
Every Amadeus session begins with signing in to a work area. A work area is the individual session or workstation that the agent uses to access the system โ and each Amadeus office has a limited number of them. When you sign in, the system assigns you to an available area or to the specific area you request. The Amadeus JI command is the Amadeus entry used to sign in to one or more work areas, and the related JB command redisplays the sign-in message when needed. This guide explains what JI does, the syntax for each variation, and when it should be used.
What Does the Amadeus JI Command Do?
JI is the Amadeus command used to sign in to a work area.
Category: Sign In / Work Areas.
It is used to sign in to one or more Amadeus work areas. The JB command can be used to redisplay the sign-in message, which is helpful when the initial display has been lost or covered by another screen.
Sign in to the First Available Work Area
Sign in to the first available work area:
JI6604SS/GSThis signs in to the first available work area using the specified agent sign and office details. Use it when you simply want to log in without caring about which specific work area is assigned, and the system will pick an available one for you.
Redisplay the Sign-In Message
Redisplay the sign-in message:
JBThe JB command redisplays the sign-in message, which is useful when you need to check the details of your current sign-in or when the message has been replaced by another display. Use it whenever the original sign-in screen is no longer visible.
Sign in to a Specific Work Area
Sign in to a specific work area:
JIA0394TY/GSThis signs in to the specific work area identified in the entry, using the specified agent sign and office details. Use it when you need to work from a particular area โ for example a designated workstation, a specific terminal, or a session assigned to you by your office.
Sign in to Multiple Work Areas
Sign in to multiple work areas:
JIB/C0394TY/GSThis signs in to multiple work areas in a single entry. Use it when you need to work across more than one area at the same time โ for example handling multiple queues, running reports alongside a booking session, or managing a busy counter where several displays are needed.
Sign in to All Work Areas
Sign in to all work areas:
JI*0394TY/GSThis signs in to all work areas using the specified agent sign and office details. The asterisk acts as a wildcard, indicating that every available area should be opened. Use it when a supervisor, trainer, or covering agent needs access to multiple sessions simultaneously.
When to Use JI
Use JI when signing in to an Amadeus work area, either automatically to the first available area or directly to one or more specified work areas. Typical scenarios include:
- Starting your working day and signing in to Amadeus for the first time.
- Signing in on a specific workstation that is assigned to you or your team.
- Opening multiple work areas to handle several tasks at the same time.
- Signing in to all work areas as a supervisor, trainer, or covering agent.
- Reconnecting to a work area after a system disconnect or terminal reset.
- Signing in to a different work area after moving desks or offices.
- Redisplaying the sign-in message with JB when the original screen is no longer visible.
How JI Fits Into Your Daily Workflow
A typical session using JI might look like this:
- Log in to the Amadeus system using your terminal or workstation.
- Enter the appropriate JI entry with your sign and office code โ for example
JI6604SS/GSfor the first available area. - If you need a specific area, use
JIA0394TY/GS; for multiple areas, useJIB/C0394TY/GS; for all areas, useJI*0394TY/GS. - Use
JBif the sign-in message needs to be redisplayed for confirmation. - Begin work in Amadeus โ retrieve a PNR with RT or open availability with AN.
- When you are finished, sign out or leave the work area according to your office policy.
How JI Relates to Other Agent and Office Management Commands
- JI โ signs in to a work area, either automatically or to a specified area.
- JB โ redisplays the sign-in message.
- RP โ changes the responsible office and related office assignments for a PNR.
- RF โ records who requested or provided PNR information, and routes a PNR to another office or agent.
- ES โ creates security agreements for an individual PNR.
- ESD โ displays the security agreements on a PNR.
- ESX โ cancels security agreements on an individual PNR.
- RH โ displays the PNR history, showing which agent performed each action.
The distinction matters: JI handles signing in to the system, while RP and RF manage office and agent routing within PNRs, and ES, ESD, and ESX handle PNR security. JI is the first step of every session โ nothing else in Amadeus can happen until you are signed in to a work area.
Important: The number of work areas available to your office is limited. Signing in to multiple or all work areas with JIB or JI* uses more sessions and may prevent other agents from logging in. Use these options only when necessary, and sign out of work areas you are no longer using.
The exact format of the JI entry depends on your office profile and your agent sign. If the entry is rejected, confirm the correct agent sign, password, and office code with your office administrator, and check that the work area you are requesting is available.

Use JB to redisplay the sign-in message whenever it is no longer on screen. It is the very first step of every Amadeus session โ no booking, pricing, ticketing, or PNR work can happen until the agent is signed in. Remember that work areas are limited, so use multiple or all-area sign-ins only when necessary and sign out when finished. Paired with RP for office assignments, RF for routing PNRs to specific agents, and the ES, ESD, and ESX commands for PNR security, JI completes your daily session toolkit and keeps every agent correctly signed in and properly identified.
